Study Abroad
Sevilla, Spain
Spring 2025
As part of my degree in Language and International Business and Management at Clemson University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Seville, Spain during the spring of 2025. While abroad, I completed advanced coursework in Spanish language, culture, and business while also working as a Social Media Marketing Intern at Lemon3 Agency. This experience allowed me to integrate academic theory with real-world professional application in an international setting. My primary goals were to strengthen my professional Spanish, gain hands-on experience in global marketing, and develop a deeper understanding of how cultural context influences communication, branding, and consumer behavior.

Studying in Spain enhanced both my linguistic proficiency and my ability to think critically in a second language. Completing coursework fully immersed in Spanish required me to analyze complex material, participate in discussions, and produce professional-level written work in a multicultural academic environment. These experiences strengthened my adaptability, confidence, and cross-cultural communication skills—competencies that are essential in global business and marketing roles.

In addition to my academic program, my internship at Lemon3 Agency provided direct experience in an international, fast-paced work environment. Based in Seville, the agency served clients across multiple industries, including food and beverage, tourism, and fashion. In this role, I managed content creation and supported social media strategy for multiple brand accounts simultaneously, aligning messaging with each client’s target audience and overall brand identity. I developed multimedia campaigns from concept to execution, balancing creativity with data-driven decision-making to optimize engagement and performance. Working entirely in Spanish in a professional setting strengthened my ability to communicate strategically across cultures, collaborate with international teams, and adapt quickly to different brand voices and market needs.

One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was learning how marketing and communications strategies vary across global markets. Consumer behavior, digital trends, and brand positioning in Spain often differed from what I had previously studied in the United States. This required me to approach campaigns with cultural awareness and flexibility, ensuring that messaging was both locally relevant and strategically aligned with client goals. Through this process, I gained a deeper understanding of international market dynamics and the importance of culturally informed storytelling.

Living and working in Seville also strengthened my independence, problem-solving skills, and ability to navigate unfamiliar professional and cultural environments. Managing daily responsibilities in another country—while maintaining academic performance and contributing meaningfully in an internship—required a high level of organization, time management, and initiative. These experiences helped me become more self-sufficient, resilient, and confident in my ability to succeed in global and fast-paced professional settings
.
From a career perspective, my time in Seville confirmed my interest in pursuing a role in marketing, communications, or consulting within an international or cross-cultural environment. I developed a strong foundation in digital strategy, content development, brand positioning, and analytics while also gaining practical experience working with diverse teams and clients. Most importantly, I learned how to translate creative ideas into measurable results—an essential skill in today’s data-driven business landscape.

Overall, my study abroad experience was both academically and professionally transformative. It allowed me to apply my classroom knowledge in a real-world global context, strengthen my bilingual communication skills, and develop a deeper understanding of international business practices. The combination of advanced coursework and hands-on internship experience has prepared me to contribute to organizations that value global perspective, strategic thinking, and innovative communication. As I move forward in my career, the skills and insights I gained in Seville will continue to shape my approach to marketing, collaboration, and leadership in an increasingly interconnected world.
